The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) confirmed that multiple Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) have reported outages affecting callers statewide. Experts from PEMA and telecom partners are investigating the root cause and implementing fixes to reestablish reliability. Officials warn that unnecessary calls to 911 could slow down recovery efforts and delay responses to critical incidents.
In light of the outages, local agencies have published alternative contact numbers for non-emergency situations. Chambersburg residents should dial 717-263-1611, while police general information is available Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, at 717-264-4131. Waynesboro’s non-urgent line is 717-762-2132. Franklin County’s Emergency Services Building can be reached at 717-264-2813, and Adams County non-emergencies go to 717-334-8101 or 717-624-2101. Citizens should consult http://readypa.info/psaps for a full list of PSAP contacts.

Governor Josh Shapiro has been briefed on the outages and is directing state agencies to expedite repairs to the 911 infrastructure. He reminded Pennsylvanians to stay calm, adhere to PEMA guidance, and refrain from calling 911 unless facing an immediate threat to life or property. Official updates will be provided as systems come back online.
Officials stress that keeping these lines free for those in crisis is essential to ensuring timely care.
