The CBP Home Mobile App, which is available for free on both Apple and Android devices, offers eligible individuals the opportunity to avoid detention by arranging their own return travel through an app-based system. Users who self-deport through the app preserve the possibility of applying to return to the United States legally in the future, a benefit not extended to those who are forcibly removed. DHS officials emphasized that those who do not take advantage of the program risk being arrested, fined, deported, and barred from returning. The initiative is aimed at reducing costs for taxpayers by decreasing the number of forced removals and minimizing detention space usage.
To participate, users must download the CBP Home Mobile App via the Apple App Store, Google Play, or directly from DHS.gov. Additional information is available on the agency’s website.
