Federal law carries a maximum penalty of 40 years of imprisonment for this offense. In addition to a prison sentence, the convicted individual could face a term of supervised release following incarceration and a substantial fine. Any sentence imposed will be determined by a judge, who will consider the relevant federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that indictments are formal accusations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
