Drivers nationwide are being urged to check their vehicles after Ford Motor Company and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a series of safety recalls affecting nearly 540,000 SUVs, trucks and crossovers. The actions target software glitches that can trap occupants, misinstalled seat components that may shift unexpectedly, malfunctioning child locks and airbags in Bronco models, faulty instrument clusters in Ranger pickups, and missing springs in Super Duty brake assemblies. Owners are advised to verify recall status via VIN lookup and arrange no-cost repairs at dealerships to ensure continued safety on the road.

The largest recall involves 197,432 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs built from 2021 through 2025, where a software defect can leave front doors locked after the 12-volt battery drops below 8.4 volts. If occupants exit using the mechanical interior handle, the e-latch may not reset, relocking the door and potentially trapping children inside. Ford’s remedy—a software update extending low-voltage power for 12 minutes after shutdown—will be provided free of charge. Owner notifications begin June 23, with updates installable at dealerships later this summer.
A separate field action covers over 304,000 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs from 2020–2025 due to a misaligned switch bezel in the second-row seat fold mechanism. The bezel can stick in the down position, allowing seats to fold or slide unexpectedly while driving, risking passenger injury. Dealers will inspect and correct the installation at no cost; owner letters are scheduled to mail from June 23–28, with a second wave in late August.

In addition, roughly 30,000 four-door 2025 Broncos face two distinct recalls. Nearly 27,800 vehicles built between January and April may have rear child safety locks that fail to engage, letting rear doors open from the inside. Affected owners will receive free latch inspections and replacements starting late June. A smaller batch of 2,272 Broncos produced in spring may have front passenger airbags with a defective vent flange, potentially inflating at unsafe pressure. Airbag modules will be replaced at no charge beginning in late July.
Ford is also recalling 45 units of its 2025 Ranger light trucks after finding improperly configured instrument clusters that can disable critical dashboard warnings for fuel levels, collision alerts and braking systems. Notifications began June 23, and dealers will perform free software updates. Finally, more than 2,300 2025 Super Duty trucks (F-250 through F-550) built this spring require brake pedal assembly inspections after missing retain springs could cause sudden brake failure. Owners are asked to park outside and not operate these vehicles until repaired at no cost.
