We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

The day kicks off with the Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m., beginning at Ida Lee Park and proceeding down King Street through historic downtown Leesburg, ending at Fairfax Street. The parade will feature the Annual Patriots Cup Competition for the best float, sponsored by the Loudoun Now newspaper. To accommodate the event, King Street will close to through-traffic starting at 9:30 a.m., with downtown streets expected to reopen around 12:30 p.m.

Ida Lee Park will remain the central hub for evening activities. Gates open at 6 p.m. for a free concert by the Silver Bullets at 6:30 p.m., followed by one of the region’s largest fireworks displays at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks will be choreographed to music. Festival food and beverages will be available at an onsite food court. Coolers and large bags are permitted but subject to inspection; alcohol, glass, fireworks, and pets are not allowed.

In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks will be postponed to Saturday, July 5 at 9:30 p.m., although no other activities will be rescheduled. The fireworks start time may be adjusted to avoid rain or severe weather. Traffic congestion is expected before and after the evening festivities, and residents are encouraged to be patient and use designated crosswalks when parking in alternate locations such as the Town and county parking garages or the Pennington Lot.

A.V. Symington Aquatic Center will be closed all day, while Ida Lee Park Recreation Center will operate with reduced hours, from 6 a.m. to noon. Event updates, including traffic and weather alerts, are available by texting “Leesburg4th” to 888777 or visiting the Town’s website and social media channels.
