The recall affects specific 2025 model year F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks manufactured between March 19 and May 4, 2025. A missing retain spring in the brake pedal assembly may allow the brake booster pushrod to disconnect from the pedal, eliminating braking function while driving. The issue impacts 1,304 F-250s, 807 F-350s, 132 F-450s, and 102 F-550s. While only an estimated 1% of vehicles may have the defect, Ford is unable to verify the integrity of all units due to limited camera footage during a new operator’s training period at the assembly plant.
The defect was first reported after a dealership technician discovered a freely swinging brake pedal during a pre-delivery inspection. Investigations found that the spring may not have been installed on some vehicles, with unclear camera images and downed vision systems preventing confirmation. Although no crashes or injuries have been reported, Ford issued the recall after receiving multiple field and warranty reports.

Owners are instructed not to operate the vehicles and to park them outside until they are inspected. Ford will notify owners between June 18 and June 23, 2025. Dealers will inspect the brake pedal assemblies at no cost and make necessary repairs to ensure compliance with federal safety standards. The defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards regarding brake system integrity, which require all mechanical components to function as intended.
