We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

Since its founding, the Trust has protected nearly 60,000 acres across more than 160 Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War sites, safeguarding the very ground where history unfolded. This year’s Prize for History—endowed by a generous donor to ensure all funds stay focused on preservation—spotlights books that draw deeply on the power of place. Finalists include Alan Pell Crawford’s exploration of the Southern Revolution, Erik Larson’s vivid portrait of civil unrest, Patrick O’Donnell’s account of Lincoln’s Special Forces, and others whose research journeys began on hallowed terrain.

Every finalist has been invited to share their insights at the Trust’s new three-day festival in Gettysburg’s historic district from November 13 to 15, leading up to Remembrance Day Weekend and the anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Expect spirited conversations with authors like Timothy Smith, whose deep dive into Vicksburg’s “Inland Campaign” brings five pivotal battles to the page, and Alan Taylor, who traces the Civil Wars that shaped a continent.
