Federal immigration officers have arrested several individuals with serious criminal histories during a June 8 enforcement operation in Los Angeles, despite ongoing protests and opposition from local leaders. The arrests, carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), targeted previously deported or undocumented individuals with convictions for violent crimes including child molestation, domestic abuse, and manslaughter.

Among those apprehended was Eswin Uriel Castro, who had prior convictions for child molestation and weapons charges. Another individual, Anastacio Enrique Solis-Salinas, was taken into custody with a criminal record including domestic violence and child cruelty. ICE also arrested Rafael Gamez-Sanchez for a past conviction related to vehicular manslaughter. The agency stated that its focus remains on detaining individuals who pose significant threats to public safety.
Miguel Angel Palafox-Montes, who has been previously returned to Mexico twice, was arrested with a record that includes grand theft and identity theft. ICE also detained Dzhakhar Aslambekov, a Russian national recently charged with EBT fraud. These arrests were made during an enforcement surge that occurred in the face of local demonstrations opposing federal immigration policies and detentions.

While California political leaders continue to support sanctuary policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration agencies, ICE maintains that its operations are essential to community safety. The department claims that opposition from public officials and demonstrators hinders efforts to remove individuals with serious criminal backgrounds from U.S. communities.
