Ford Motor Company has announced a recall affecting 63,898 of its 2025 Maverick light trucks due to a defect involving the Passenger Airbag Disabled Indicator. The issue, which could result in the indicator becoming loose or dislodged within the instrument panel, has raised concerns over compliance with federal safety standards and potential passenger injury risks.

The defect was first identified on April 23, 2025, during a pre-delivery inspection at Ford’s Hermosillo assembly plant. Further inspections confirmed additional vehicles were affected. An internal investigation revealed that the 2025 model year featured a new instrument panel bezel design that lacked sufficient rigidity to secure the indicator properly. The concern was formally reviewed and led to the approval of a field action by Ford’s Field Review Committee on May 2, 2025.
Ford disclosed that the Passenger Airbag Disabled Indicator may not be visible to drivers or front passengers, which could prevent occupants from knowing if the passenger airbag is active. This failure to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. So far, only one warranty claim has been reported, with no known accidents or injuries linked to the defect.

To address the issue, Ford will install additional retaining clips to better secure the indicator, with repairs provided at no cost to owners. Notification letters to owners are scheduled to be mailed starting June 9, 2025, with the recall campaign expected to conclude by late September. The new clips were incorporated into production as of April 25, 2025, ensuring future Maverick trucks will not be affected.
The component parts involved were manufactured by Summit Plastics Guanajuato in Mexico. Owners can verify whether their vehicle is part of the recall by contacting Ford’s toll-free line or a local Ford or Lincoln dealer.
