Rinnai America Corporation has announced the recall of approximately 2,030 units of its i-Series Plus residential wall-mounted gas boilers due to a potential carbon monoxide hazard. The issue stems from the use of incorrect screws, which can cause the boiler door to fail to seal properly, allowing carbon monoxide to escape. The recall, which also affects 249 units sold in Canada, aims to prevent the risk of CO poisoning associated with the defect.

The recall covers four models: IP175S, IP199S, IP175199C, and IP199199C. These units, manufactured in Japan, are identifiable by a top white label on the side that lists the model number, gas type, and serial number. Sold between September 2024 and February 2025, the boilers were available through independent heating and plumbing contractors, wholesale distributors, and online retailers such as Amazon.com, Homedepot.com, and Lowes.com. Prices ranged from $3,900 to $5,000.

No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with the recalled products. However, Rinnai advises consumers to stop using the boilers immediately and to contact the company to schedule a free repair by a certified technician. As a safety measure, households awaiting repairs are encouraged to ensure they have functioning carbon monoxide alarms on every floor and outside sleeping areas.
