Nissan North America, Inc. has announced a safety recall affecting an estimated 79,755 vehicles due to a defect in the Center Information Display system. The recall impacts specific 2025 model year Nissan Kicks and Nissan Frontier vehicles, with a software error potentially causing the rear view monitor to display a blank screen when shifting into reverse. This malfunction could hinder rearward visibility, raising the risk of accidents and violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 on rear visibility.

The problem stems from a communication error between the Center Information Display and the In-Vehicle Infotainment module. Investigations revealed that a blank or black screen could appear without warning, and the issue only resolves after a hard reset. Nissan’s internal analysis began in October 2024 following initial field reports, and by May 8, 2025, the company decided to proceed with the recall. The impacted displays were manufactured by Faurecia at their facility in San Juan del Rio, Mexico.

Dealers will begin receiving notifications on May 28, 2025. Owners will be informed by first-class mail starting July 1, 2025, in a phased rollout. Affected vehicles will receive a software update performed free of charge, utilizing Nissan’s CONSULT 3+ diagnostic tool along with a jumper harness. The repair process is expected to take approximately one hour to complete.

Vehicles included in the recall were produced between June 24, 2024, and March 7, 2025, for the Kicks model, and between August 8, 2024, and April 2, 2025, for the Frontier model. Nissan has confirmed that no other Nissan or INFINITI vehicles are impacted by the defect. Since the affected vehicles remain under warranty, no reimbursement for prior repairs will be offered under the recall program.
