Ford Motor Company has announced a safety recall involving certain 2025 Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer vehicles due to a defect with the front subframe mounting bolts. A total of 206 vehicles are potentially affected, with an estimated 50% expected to have the defect. The recall stems from concerns that improperly installed subframe bolts could loosen over time, posing an increased risk of injury during a crash.

The defect was discovered during a routine torque audit on April 2, 2025, when a faulty subframe bolt was identified. Further inspection revealed that a damaged assembly tool caused improper torque application while simultaneously providing inaccurate readings. Specifically, 22 Lincoln Aviators and 184 Ford Explorers manufactured between April 1 and April 2, 2025, are involved in the recall. Vehicles were not produced in VIN order, so owners must check individually for applicability.

Affected vehicles may experience a clunking or rattling noise from the front suspension, serving as an early warning sign of the issue. Ford has emphasized that no warranty claims, customer complaints, or reports of accidents or injuries have been associated with the defect so far.

To address the problem, Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealership for a complimentary inspection and, if necessary, tightening of the subframe bolt to proper specifications. The notification process for dealers is scheduled to begin on May 12, 2025, with owner notifications following between May 19 and May 23, 2025. The defective bolt part number is W719413, and corrective actions will ensure bolts are torqued correctly.

Owners who previously paid out of pocket for related repairs may qualify for reimbursement under Ford’s existing recall reimbursement plan. For further information, customers can contact Ford’s toll-free number or their local dealerships for assistance.
