According to court documents, Kinnell and co-conspirator Brian Thornel Elzey embarked on the spree between July 28 and August 3, 2022, robbing a total of 11 fast-food establishments and stealing approximately $3,555. The method involved approaching drive-thru windows under the guise of placing an order. Kinnell would then exit the vehicle, engage the employee, and forcibly seize cash from the register. In four of these incidents, occurring between August 1 and August 3, Kinnell escalated to using a firearm during the robberies.

Authorities apprehended the pair in the early hours of August 4 after stopping a stolen vehicle in Wheaton, Maryland. A search of the car uncovered a semi-automatic pistol, cash drawers from two restaurants, and $427.01 in cash. Law enforcement also recovered cell phones belonging to Kinnell and Elzey. During their investigation, authorities learned that Kinnell and Elzey had attempted six additional robberies during their spree.
