In a significant step under the newly announced Project Homecoming initiative, the Department of Homeland Security on Monday coordinated a charter flight carrying 64 individuals from Houston, Texas, to Honduras and Colombia. These individuals, all of whom were in the United States illegally, voluntarily chose to depart the country using the CBP Home App, a tool designed to streamline self-deportation. The program provides financial incentives and logistical support to participants who opt to leave on their own terms, in contrast to traditional immigration enforcement operations.

Participants in this flight received assistance including travel coordination, a $1,000 stipend, and the preservation of their eligibility to return to the United States through legal channels in the future. The initiative is not part of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removal effort but instead aligns with President Trump’s directive to implement Project Homecoming, offering a structured and humane path for self-deportation. The flight was the first formal execution of the program.

Upon arrival in Honduras, 38 individuals were welcomed by relatives and officials involved in the Honduran government’s reintegration efforts. Those over the age of 18 qualified for an additional $100 stipend through the “Hermano, Hermana, Vuelve a Casa” initiative. In addition, the program offers food vouchers and employment assistance to support their transition back into Honduran society.

In Colombia, 26 participants were greeted by their families alongside representatives from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration Colombia. Social services were provided through Colombia’s Family Welfare Institute and the Department of Social Prosperity to help facilitate resettlement and reintegration. The charter flight marked a bilateral effort to ensure that voluntary returnees are not only welcomed but also given a chance to rebuild in their home countries with institutional support.
