The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has opened applications for a new pilot program aimed at licensing outdoor, nature-based child care programs. This initiative is part of the state’s effort to broaden access to high-quality early childhood education while encouraging learning in natural environments.
The Outdoor Nature-Based Child Care License Pilot Program will authorize qualified providers to operate year-round programs in fully outdoor settings. Children enrolled in these programs will engage in nature-focused activities for the entire day, supporting their development through hands-on environmental learning. The model reflects growing interest in alternative education methods that emphasize holistic development and physical activity.
