For the sixth consecutive year, Olivia and Liam have maintained their positions as the most popular baby names in the United States, according to the latest data released by the Social Security Administration. Emma and Noah held onto the second-place spots for girls and boys, respectively, while Sofia re-entered the top 10 girls’ names, replacing Luna.

The top 10 names for boys in 2024 include Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, James, Henry, Mateo, Elijah, Lucas, and William. For girls, the leading names are Olivia, Emma, Amelia, Charlotte, Mia, Sophia, Isabella, Evelyn, Ava, and Sofia. The rankings reflect naming data from new Social Security card applications processed throughout the year.
Each year, the Social Security Administration releases its list of the 1,000 most popular names ahead of Mother’s Day, drawn from information collected at the time of a child’s birth. Most parents request a Social Security number for their child during their hospital stay, making SSA data the primary national source for tracking baby name trends.

This year’s list also highlights names that have seen the largest year-over-year gains. For boys, Truce experienced the most significant rise, jumping 11,118 spots to reach number 991. Colsen, Bryer, Halo, and Azaiah followed closely behind. On the girls’ side, Ailany led the increase in popularity, followed by Aylani, Marjorie, Scottie, and Analeia.
The Social Security Administration began compiling baby name statistics in 1997, with historical data going back to 1880. The agency provides annual updates and additional resources for parents, including guidance on obtaining a child’s Social Security number and card.
