Undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Maryland College Park, Morgan State University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Johns Hopkins University will work alongside engineers and public-sector professionals on the bridge reconstruction. The program is intended to develop collaboration, strengthen community involvement, and build professional networks for students pursuing careers in engineering, infrastructure, and related fields.

More than 80 students applied to the program, which is open to those studying civil and mechanical engineering, environmental science, computer science, information systems, business technology, and communications. Of those applicants, 10 students were chosen for the first session, which will begin in early June and run through late August. Interns will be employed as temporary state workers, initially focusing on project management with additional opportunities in construction, environmental oversight, and outreach.
