Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 128,889 Bronco SUVs from model years 2022 and 2023 due to a malfunction in the optional 360-degree camera system, which may display blue or black screens during reverse operation, increasing the risk of collisions.

The recall, filed under NHTSA number 25V-273 and Ford recall number 23S48, affects vehicles built between August 31, 2021, and October 31, 2023, that are equipped with the optional 360-degree camera system. Vehicles that feature only the standard rearview camera are not impacted. The issue arises from fretting corrosion and potential misalignment inside the camera’s internal connector, which disrupts circuit continuity and results in the loss of video frames.
Ford attributes the defect to tin oxide buildup caused by micro-movements in the connector, influenced by environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. Additionally, misalignment during manufacturing may contribute to permanent connector damage. The malfunction presents no warning before failure and can cause the rear camera image to intermittently or completely disappear from the SYNC screen when reversing or using the 360-degree view.

Ford plans to notify dealers beginning April 28, 2025, with owner notification letters to be mailed between May 5 and May 9, 2025. Owners will be instructed to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the rearview camera replaced at no cost. The updated camera, part number M2DT-19G490-BB, will include a gold-plated connector and improvements to internal alignment to prevent recurrence of the defect. Ford also offers reimbursement to owners who previously paid for related repairs.
