Federal officials have disclosed new details in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, also known as the “Maryland Dad,” revealing a previously unreported domestic violence petition filed against him by his ex-wife in 2020. The release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adds to a growing record of violent behavior attributed to Garcia, who has since been deported and identified as a member of the MS-13 gang.

According to court documents filed in Prince George’s County District Court, Jennifer Vasquez accused Garcia of multiple abusive actions between late 2019 and early 2020, including physical assaults, verbal abuse, and threats to her and her children. The petition describes incidents where Garcia allegedly dragged Vasquez out of a vehicle by her hair, broke household items in fits of rage, and confined her and her children. These claims predate a separate 2021 petition in which Vasquez reported further physical abuse.

This latest revelation brings the total number of known protective order filings against Garcia to two. DHS has linked him not only to domestic abuse cases but also to an alleged human trafficking operation. Garcia had previously entered the U.S. illegally and was confirmed by federal authorities as a member of the violent transnational gang MS-13.

DHS emphasized that Garcia’s deportation has removed a dangerous individual from U.S. communities, pointing to the seriousness of the charges and the protection orders filed against him.
