On April 18 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a red Toyota pickup truck approached the Brown Field Station checkpoint, where a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to the potential presence of hidden people or narcotics. The vehicle was directed to a secondary inspection area. Although an initial visual inspection revealed nothing suspicious, agents proceeded with a mobile x-ray scan of the vehicle, which detected irregularities in the spare tire mounted beneath the truck.

Agents removed the tire and used a handheld x-ray scanner to examine its contents. Inside, they found 48 individually wrapped packages, later confirmed to be methamphetamine. The total weight of the narcotics was 51 pounds, with an estimated street value of $175,000.
