AliExpress has issued a recall for nearly 400 units of RGB-branded LED strip lights sold on its platform, citing significant safety violations tied to lithium coin batteries. The recalled products fail to meet federal safety standards under Reese’s Law, which is designed to prevent child injuries from ingesting button or coin cell batteries. While no injuries have been reported, officials warn that the lights pose a serious risk due to unsecured battery compartments and the absence of mandatory safety labeling.

The affected LED lights were sold online at AliExpress.com between March and November 2024 for approximately $3. They are designed to be color-changing and dimmable, measuring about 0.4 inches in length, and were available in a variety of colors including white, green, purple, red, and blue. Manufactured in China and distributed by Dongguan Changsheng Heng Electronic Commerce Co. Ltd., the lights allow easy access to internal button batteries, presenting an ingestion hazard for children. If swallowed, these batteries can cause severe internal burns or be fatal.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the lights and destroy them by cutting the strips in half before disposing of them following local hazardous waste protocols. A refund can be requested by submitting a photo of the destroyed product to AliExpress via email or through the company’s recall webpage. AliExpress is actively reaching out to all known purchasers to facilitate the refund process.
