A new $1.2 million donation from the Baltimore Community Foundation will provide extended financial support to the families and survivors affected by the Key Bridge collapse. Announced by Mayor Brandon M. Scott on Tuesday, the funding ensures that critical aid services—initially set to conclude by the end of 2025—can now continue for an additional 30 months.

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

The contribution will be added to the Key Bridge Emergency Response Fund, which is jointly administered by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Baltimore Civic Fund. This fund was created in the aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and has already distributed significant financial assistance to the families of the six victims and two survivors. The support has included coverage for burial and repatriation costs, legal aid, housing, travel, and other essential living expenses.
To date, public contributions to the fund have totaled approximately $1.14 million, raised through thousands of individual and organizational donations. The City has already allocated more than half of those original funds, making the new BCF donation vital for sustaining continued support. The new influx ensures that long-term needs—particularly for survivors and the families of those lost—will remain addressed well beyond the original funding timeline.

City officials emphasized that this donation symbolizes an enduring commitment to the victims, many of whom were immigrant workers. The Key Bridge Emergency Response Fund has been a central piece of the city’s response, offering not only financial help but also a platform for civic solidarity in the face of tragedy.
