More than $850,000 worth of cocaine was discovered hidden inside a vehicle at the Hidalgo International Bridge on Easter Sunday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The drugs were found during a routine inspection at the busy border crossing between the United States and Mexico.

CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo port of entry encountered a black GMC SUV entering the U.S. from Mexico on April 20. The vehicle was referred for further inspection, which involved the use of nonintrusive inspection technology and a canine team. Upon conducting a physical search, officers located 24 packages of alleged cocaine concealed within the SUV.
The seized narcotics weighed nearly 64 pounds, totaling 29.72 kilograms. Officials estimate the street value of the cocaine to be approximately $850,000. The vehicle and drugs were seized by CBP, and the driver was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations, which has launched a criminal probe into the incident.

CBP emphasized that its officers remain alert even during high-traffic holidays such as Easter, utilizing a combination of experience and advanced technology to intercept illicit contraband. The operation was part of ongoing enforcement efforts at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry to combat drug trafficking at the southern border.
