According to the company’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 17 vehicles are potentially affected by the defect, all of which were built between April 7, 2022, and December 11, 2024. The issue centers on the possibility that the left or right front stabilizer bar bracket bolts were not properly tightened during assembly. If both bolts on one side loosen and detach from the frame, it could cause the stabilizer bar or bracket to come into contact with high voltage cables or battery coolant lines.
GM reports that such damage could ultimately lead to the vehicle shutting off or becoming undriveable, significantly raising the risk of a crash. A manufacturing software tool error was identified as the root cause, leading to insufficient torque on the bolts.

The flaw was initially discovered on January 8, 2025, prompting GM to initiate an internal investigation. No field incidents or customer complaints related to the issue have been reported to date. GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority authorized the recall on April 3, 2025. Honda was also notified, as certain GM-manufactured Acura ZDX vehicles may be affected and will be subject to a similar recall by Honda.
The recall remedy involves inspecting and, if necessary, refastening the bracket bolts at dealerships. Since the vehicles are under warranty, no reimbursement program is being offered. GM confirmed the software issue was corrected on January 16, 2025. Dealer notifications began on April 10, with owner notification letters scheduled for mailing on May 26, 2025.
