Thousands of Bellababy infant swings sold online have been flagged as hazardous by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which is urging consumers to immediately stop using them. The swings pose multiple safety risks, including a serious suffocation hazard due to an incline angle that exceeds federal safety limits. Additional violations include non-compliance with federal regulations on infant restraint systems and the unsafe use of button cell batteries.

The swings, marketed for infant sleep, have an incline greater than 10 degrees, in direct violation of the Safe Sleep for Babies Act. Federal guidelines mandate a flat surface for infant sleep to reduce the risk of suffocation. Compounding the danger, the swings do not meet federal safety standards for restraint systems, which are designed to prevent infants from slipping or rolling into unsafe positions.
A further violation involves the remote controls included with the swings, which contain lithium coin batteries. These batteries are not accompanied by the safety warnings required by Reese’s Law, a regulation meant to prevent accidental ingestion. Swallowed button cell or coin batteries can lead to severe internal injuries or death in children. The swings were sold online exclusively through Amazon.com between 2023 and February 2025, with approximately 6,400 units in circulation.

The seller, Bellababy Medical Devices Inc., based in China, has not responded to the CPSC’s request for a recall or consumer remedy. Each swing is identifiable by its gray seat, white base, and the embroidered “Bellababy” label on the restraints. The affected units are marked “Baby Swing” and carry the model number WS-HB182 on a label found at the bottom of the seat.
Consumers are advised to stop using and dispose of the swings immediately, and not to sell or donate them. Parents are reminded that the safest place for an infant to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard without any added soft items. The CPSC encourages reporting of any incidents related to these swings at www.SaferProducts.gov.
