A Preston County, WV resident with prior felony drug convictions has admitted to illegally possessing a firearm, a charge that could lead to a lengthy federal prison sentence. Pedro Antonio Pacheco, 46, of Kingwood, West Virginia, entered the plea following an incident during a routine traffic stop in which law enforcement discovered a gun in his vehicle.

According to court documents, Pacheco was pulled over for a traffic violation when an officer noticed a firearm lying on the passenger seat. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited by law from possessing firearms. The firearm discovery led to federal charges, and Pacheco has now formally admitted guilt to the violation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christie Utt. Pacheco could face up to 15 years in federal prison, although his final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge.
