A 26-year-old Honduran national has been sentenced to 54 days in prison for failing to comply with a removal order and attempting to hinder his deportation from the United States. The sentencing was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Malachy E. Mannion in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Noel Chinchilla-Avilez was originally ordered to leave the U.S. in 2023 but failed to do so within the mandated 90-day period. In February 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Chinchilla-Avilez for removal. During the process, he reportedly slipped out of his handcuffs and attempted to flee custody.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations.
