Circuit Court Judge Timothy J. Doory handed down a sentence that exceeded standard guidelines, citing the severity and circumstances of the crime. Prosecutors argued that Harris was among three individuals who approached and fatally shot an unarmed Gardner multiple times in the back and head. Family members of the victim gave statements in court describing the emotional toll the killing has taken on their lives. Their testimony was considered before the judge delivered the sentence. Prosecutors presented video evidence during the trial that was central to identifying Harris as one of the shooters, specifically referencing his distinctive teal hood worn during the incident.
