Over two thousand Trailstar trailers produced by White River Marine Group are being recalled following the discovery of a winch strap defect that could cause boats to fall during transport. The recall, registered under NHTSA number 25V-219, covers select 2024 and 2025 Trailstar TRL and TOPPER trailer models manufactured between August 31, 2023, and March 31, 2025.

The issue arises from the design of the winch stand, where the strap may rub against a metal crossbar on the forward bunk assembly. This contact can cause the strap to fray when tightened, increasing the risk of breakage. If the strap snaps, the boat may detach from the trailer, posing a significant safety hazard. While the manufacturer estimates that only 30% of the 2,164 affected units may exhibit the defect, it has halted sales and shipments of all trailers potentially involved.

White River Marine Group was alerted to the problem on March 31, 2025, after a trailer’s strap broke, causing a boat to fall. Although no injuries were reported, the company acted swiftly, initiating a stop-sale and launching an internal review. A technical committee identified the source of the defect and validated a solution on in-plant units within a week.

To remedy the issue, the company will install a roller kit on all affected trailers to reroute the winch strap and prevent metal contact. The fix will be applied free of charge under warranty. Trailers still at the manufacturing facility have already received the corrective measure. Dealer and customer notifications are scheduled between April 11 and April 18, 2025.
