Daily apprehensions fell to approximately 230, a stark contrast to the 5,100 daily encounters typically recorded under the previous administration. Officials say the numbers highlight a turning point in national border security efforts.
Federal leaders credited the shift to policies enacted by President Trump and Secretary Noem, who have prioritized strict border enforcement. Acting Commissioner Pete Flores emphasized that border agents are being given expanded authority to prevent unlawful entry and that those attempting to cross illegally will face prosecution and deportation.
