We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

Open to children in Washington County and surrounding areas, the program encourages participants to read up to three books over the summer months. Upon registration through the team’s website, each participant will receive a printable “Boxcars Bookworm Bookmark” to track their reading. By completing and submitting the bookmark, children can earn a free ticket to one of three designated Flying Boxcars games, along with a ticket for a parent or guardian.

Scheduled Boxcars Bookworm game dates are June 24, July 29, and August 26. Youth who participate in all three reading dates can visit the Xfinity booth at the August 26 game to claim an additional prize. The program is intended to both motivate students to continue reading during the school break and connect families with local community events.

Xfinity’s support of the program follows its recent announcement of a network expansion expected to reach over 50,000 homes and businesses in the Hagerstown area. The collaboration with the Flying Boxcars aligns with Comcast’s ongoing mission to promote educational initiatives and digital access across the region. The Boxcars, entering their second season in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, continue to prioritize family-focused experiences at Meritus Park, which drew nearly 175,000 fans in 2024.
