Specialized Bicycle Components has recalled approximately 32,400 Vado and Como IGH e-bikes in the United States due to a potential fall hazard caused by the bike’s protective chain guard. An additional 3,200 units were sold in Canada and about 190 in Mexico. The issue arises because the chain/belt guard does not fully cover the belt drive, which can cause loose clothing to become entangled, posing a risk of falls.

The affected e-bikes feature an internal gear hub (IGH) without a rear derailleur and were sold between March 2021 and November 2024 for prices ranging from $3,250 to $5,750. They were available in a variety of colors, including black, limestone, red, sand, sea foam, navy, purple, white, gray, raspberry, umber, dark gray, and yellow. The recalled models include multiple versions of the Como and Vado series, such as COMO 3.0 IGH, COMO 4.0 IGH, COMO 5.0 IGH, VADO 3.0 IGH, and VADO 5.0 IGH, among others. The model numbers are printed on the white and black serial number label located on the underside of the bicycle’s top tube.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected e-bikes and contact their nearest authorized Specialized retailer for a free installation of an updated protective chain/belt guard. Specialized Bicycle Components is directly notifying all known purchasers of the recall.
