Federal authorities have indicted five individuals on charges related to firearms trafficking and possession by illegal aliens, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced. The indictments are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations.

Vielman Cabrera Arevalo, 20, of Guatemala; Erick Lozano Colindrez, 23, of Honduras; and Ludwin Fuentes Lopez, 22, of El Salvador, face charges of Alien in Possession of a Firearm and/or Ammunition. Additionally, Lester Araely Ramos Perez, 28, and Milton Leon-Morales, 27, both from Guatemala, are charged with Firearms Trafficking and Alien in Possession of a Firearm offenses. Ramos Perez and Leon-Morales are also accused of conspiring to transport and dispose of more than 35 firearms on January 22, 2025, as well as dealing firearms without a license and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

Law enforcement discovered Arevalo in possession of two rounds of CBC 9mm Luger ammunition on December 14, 2023. Lopez was found with a black Polymer 80 firearm and ammunition on July 20, 2024, while Colindrez was in possession of a Johnson Arms & Cycle Works .32 caliber revolver, a black 9mm polymer pistol, and approximately 23 rounds of ammunition on November 15, 2024. If convicted, Ramos Perez and Leon-Morales face up to 15 years in prison for firearms trafficking, five years for dealing firearms without a license, 15 years for possessing firearms as illegal aliens, and 20 years for drug conspiracy charges. The other defendants each face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.

The case is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations. Authorities emphasized that an indictment is merely an allegation and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
