General Motors (GM) has announced a recall affecting approximately 90,081 vehicles across four Cadillac and Chevrolet models due to a potential transmission defect that could lead to wheel lock-up while driving. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-148, includes select 2019-2022 Cadillac CT4, CT5, CT6, and Chevrolet Camaro vehicles equipped with a 10-speed transmission. The defect arises from excessive wear in the transmission control valve, which may cause a loss of hydraulic pressure and result in harsh shifting. In rare cases, this could cause the wheels to momentarily lock up, increasing the risk of a crash.

The affected vehicles include 2,235 Cadillac CT4s (model years 2020-2021), 27,097 Cadillac CT5s (model years 2020-2021), 10,602 Cadillac CT6s (model years 2019-2020), and 50,147 Chevrolet Camaros (model years 2020-2022). According to GM, the problem stems from fluid leaks in the transmission control valve, which can cause sudden and unexpected valve movement. The issue first came to GM’s attention on September 27, 2024, when a Cadillac CT5 owner reported that both front tires locked up while driving, forcing the vehicle into neutral. Subsequent investigations uncovered 115 additional field reports, including one alleged accident, linked to the defect.

As a remedy, GM will update the transmission control module software to monitor valve performance and detect excessive wear up to 10,000 miles before a potential wheel lock-up. If the system detects an issue, the vehicle will be limited to fifth gear, preventing further occurrences of the defect. Additionally, a service engine light and reduced propulsion warning will notify drivers of the problem. GM will notify dealers on March 6, 2025, and begin notifying affected vehicle owners starting April 21, 2025. The recall will be phased in as remedies become available.
