A recent wildfire in Washington County burned 15 to 20 acres before being contained, marking the second fire in two days and highlighting the dry conditions in the area. Local officials continue to urge residents to avoid outdoor burning to reduce fire risks. In other local news, the Washington County Board of Education approved a $365 million budget for FY26, secured a school nurse contract, and honored Boonsboro High School’s “We the People” team for their 10th state title. Additionally, Charles Bell, a Custodial Engineer at E. Russell Hicks Middle School, was named the 2025 Educational Support Personnel of the Year.

On the national front, Toyota has issued recalls for over 146,000 vehicles, including the 2024-2025 Toyota Tacoma and several Lexus models, due to potential brake fluid leaks and seatbelt defects. General Motors has also recalled over 70,000 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks from the 2022 model year because of an issue with the chrome front grille deflectors. Additionally, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed creating a state version of Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” to audit local budgets and is exploring the possibility of eliminating property taxes.
