Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico East Port of Entry in California intercepted a significant quantity of liquid methamphetamine concealed within a vehicle’s gas tank. The discovery highlights the inventive methods employed by traffickers to smuggle narcotics across the border.

The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon when officers encountered a 52-year-old woman driving a 2002 SUV, accompanied by a 46-year-old male passenger, as they sought entry into the United States. A preliminary inspection raised suspicions, prompting officers to refer the vehicle for a more thorough examination.
Advanced scanning technology identified irregularities in the vehicle’s gas tank. A CBP K-9 unit then alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. Upon further investigation, 254.85 pounds of liquid methamphetamine were extracted from the gas tank. Field testing confirmed the substance as methamphetamine.

The vehicle and narcotics were seized by authorities. Both individuals were detained and transferred to Homeland Security Investigations for further processing. The Calexico Area Port Director praised the diligence of CBP officers in combating the smuggling of dangerous drugs.
