A United States citizen with an active arrest warrant was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo, New York. The individual, identified as 30-year-old Jesse Smith, attempted to evade inspection by jumping a fence after initially entering the bridge plaza from an unauthorized area.

Smith had attempted to walk to Canada but decided against crossing the border. Upon re-entering the United States by jumping over a fence, he was intercepted by CBP officers and taken to a secondary inspection area for further investigation. A background check through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) confirmed that Smith was wanted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office in Pennsylvania for violating probation on an initial charge of Driving While Ability Impaired by a Controlled Substance.

CBP officers confirmed Smith’s identity and warrant before taking him into custody. He was subsequently handed over to the Buffalo Police Department and is currently being held at the Erie County Sheriff’s Office in New York while awaiting extradition. Authorities emphasized their commitment to screening all travelers and ensuring that wanted fugitives do not evade detection.
