Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a state prison inmate at Jessup Correctional Institution in Anne Arundel County. Authorities have identified the deceased as 61-year-old Warren Michael Griffin, who was pronounced dead at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.

A fellow inmate has been identified as a suspect, but no charges have been filed at this time. His identity has not been released pending formal charges. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit (DPSCS IID) on February 21, 2025, after Griffin’s death was reported.

State Police homicide investigators, along with crime scene technicians and DPSCS IID investigators, are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office for a decision on charges.
