A total of 67,349 students were part of the class of 2024, and 58,965 earned their diplomas within four years. Most student groups saw stable graduation rates compared to the previous year. The five-year cohort graduation rate, which tracks students who complete high school within five years, was 87.4% for the class of 2023, a slight decrease from 88.2% the previous year.

State officials credit targeted investments in education for the rising graduation rates. The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a statewide initiative aimed at improving student outcomes, is expected to continue driving positive trends in the coming years. Since peaking at 87.7% in 2017, Maryland’s graduation rate has fluctuated between 85.8% and 87.2%, making the 2024 increase a notable achievement.
