Baltimore Man Sentenced to More Than Nine Years for Assaulting Federal Correctional Officers

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison for assaulting multiple correctional officers at the Chesapeake Detention Facility in 2021. Igor Yasinov, 35, received a 110-month prison term followed by three years of supervised release after being convicted on four counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, inflicting bodily injury. At the time of the assaults, Yasinov was awaiting resentencing for conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and kidnapping.

The incident occurred on November 16, 2021, when Yasinov broke a control-center window with a broomstick, injuring himself in the process. As correctional officers attempted to transport him for medical treatment, he began issuing threats. Following treatment, he was moved to a segregation unit, where he became combative upon learning he would not return to his original housing unit. When officers tried to secure him in his cell, Yasinov resisted, knocking one officer to the ground and causing several others to fall. Officers eventually restrained him with leg irons and carried him into his cell.

Despite being secured, Yasinov continued to fight. After officers removed his leg irons, he was instructed to face the wall while they exited. As the last officer attempted to leave, Yasinov charged at them, sparking another violent struggle. Several officers sustained injuries, including one with a fractured tibia and others suffering head, neck, back, and limb injuries. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, with assistance from the U.S. Marshal Service and the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
