Volvo Car USA, LLC has issued a recall for 2,061 units of its 2025 EX90 SUV due to a defect that could cause a temporary loss of low and high beam headlight function. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-071 and Volvo’s internal recall number R10298, affects EX90 models produced from April 22, 2024, to January 31, 2025. The issue arises from a software problem in the Low Power Controller (LPC), which may prompt the headlamp shutters to close unexpectedly during driving, reducing nighttime visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

The problem was first identified in November 2024 when Volvo received a report of temporary headlight failure. Following an internal investigation, the issue was escalated in January 2025 to the company’s Critical Concern Management Team, which deemed it a safety risk. A recall decision was finalized on February 7, 2025. Vehicles manufactured after January 31, 2025, are not affected, as updated software has been implemented in production to prevent the defect.
