Norovirus, a highly contagious virus, can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, fever, headache, and body aches. Symptoms typically appear within 12 to 48 hours of exposure and last one to three days. While most people recover without medical intervention, severe cases can lead to dehydration, especially in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Those experiencing symptoms are urged to contact their healthcare provider and report their illness to local health authorities.
The FDA has advised restaurants and retailers to stop selling and serving the affected oysters and to dispose of any remaining stock. Businesses should also take precautions to prevent cross-contamination by thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, utensils, and storage containers. Consumers who may have purchased these oysters are advised not to consume them and to discard them immediately.

The FDA is actively investigating the scope of the contamination and is working with state health officials to monitor the situation. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Those who believe they have consumed contaminated oysters and are experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention promptly. The agency also encourages consumers to report any illness or adverse reactions linked to these products.
