Honda has announced a recall affecting approximately 294,612 vehicles due to a programming issue in the fuel injection electronic control unit (FI-ECU) that could cause the engine to stall, hesitate, or lose power while driving. The recall impacts certain 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S, 2023-2025 Honda Pilot, and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S models.

The defect stems from improper settings in the correction control logic for air flow rate and fuel injection volume, which could result in a torque control failure under certain driving conditions. The issue was traced to the supplier, Denso International America, Inc., which notified Honda of a potential onboard diagnostics problem in April 2024. Honda later identified engine stalling as a risk and determined the defect warranted a recall.
Honda has received 674 warranty claims related to this issue but has not reported any injuries or crashes. The automaker will notify affected owners beginning March 17, 2025, instructing them to visit an authorized Honda or Acura dealer for a free software update to correct the FI-ECU settings. Owners who previously paid for related repairs may be eligible for reimbursement.

The recall process will start with dealer notifications on January 28, 2025, with owner notifications following in March. Honda urges customers to address the issue promptly to reduce the risk of engine power loss, which could increase the likelihood of a crash.
