Ford Motor Company has issued a recall affecting 149,449 Ford Bronco vehicles produced between September 23, 2020, and July 23, 2024, due to a defect in the rear shock absorbers. The defect arises from crevice corrosion at the interface between the external reservoir and the damper body, which can lead to the separation of components. Early warning signs include a bouncy ride, noise, or fluid leaks near the rear wheels. The problem affects vehicles equipped with long flange rear shock absorbers and was identified through accelerated corrosion testing and analysis. Ford has received 551 warranty claims and three customer reports, though no accidents or injuries have been linked to the defect.
Ford began its investigation following reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in late 2024. Modifications to address the corrosion issue were implemented in production vehicles starting May 1, 2024, for the Badlands trim and July 23, 2024, for the Sasquatch package. However, vehicles manufactured before these dates remain at risk.

The company is developing a remedy and plans to notify owners by mail between February 3 and February 7, 2025. Dealers were scheduled to be informed on January 21, 2025. Owners who have already addressed the issue at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement under Ford’s general recall reimbursement plan.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to contact Ford or their local dealer for more details about the recall and to confirm whether their vehicle is affected.
