The explosion occurred at PharmaCann, a cannabis extraction facility on Log Canoe Circle, just before 2:00 p.m. Fire crews from the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and other nearby departments responded to the scene. The facility’s sprinkler system contained the fire, and hazmat teams from Anne Arundel and Dorchester Counties were brought in to address the potential presence of hazardous materials. The blast originated in an extraction booth where propane and butane were in use, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Emergency systems, including alarms and ventilation, performed as intended, reducing damage and minimizing injuries. One of the two employees hurt in the incident sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Damages to the facility are estimated to exceed $250,000. Neighboring properties at 337, 343, 345, and 351 Log Canoe Circle were evacuated and temporarily closed due to the damage and safety concerns.
