Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old on Sunday night in Caroline County. The incident occurred on Route 313 near Chipmans Lane in Federalsburg and involved a Ford Fusion and a dump truck contracted by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.

The victim, identified as Trevor Whiteley of Federalsburg, was a passenger in the Ford Fusion and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred shortly before midnight when the Ford, traveling south on Route 313, collided with the rear of the dump truck. The truck, operated by 24-year-old William Andrew of Cordova, Maryland, was stopped partially on the roadway while conducting snow removal and salting operations.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, Nathan D’Orlando, 19, of Denton, Maryland, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Shock Trauma by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command. Emergency personnel treated Andrew at the scene for minor injuries.

The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is conducting a post-crash inspection of the dump truck. Investigators are working to determine whether alcohol played a role in the incident. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Maryland Department of Transportation for road closures during the response.
