Among those pardoned are individuals whose lives have demonstrated remarkable transformation. Darryl Chambers, a former inmate and now a community advocate, has worked to prevent violence and uplift youth in Wilmington, Delaware. Marcus Garvey, a posthumous recipient, was recognized for his historic contributions to civil rights and global advocacy despite a controversial conviction in 1923. Additional pardons include Ravi Ragbir, an advocate for immigrant communities; Don Scott, Virginia’s first Black Speaker of the House of Delegates; and Kemba Smith Pradia, a criminal justice advocate who has dedicated her life to reform and empowerment since her sentence commutation in 2000.
Two sentence commutations were issued, allowing Robin Peoples and Michelle West to regain their freedom in February 2025. Both have been recognized for their rehabilitation and long-standing commitment to positive change during their decades of incarceration.

On January 20, President Biden announced additional pardons to shield public servants targeted by investigations deemed politically motivated. General Mark A. Milley, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, members of the January 6th Select Committee, and law enforcement officers who testified before the committee were among those pardoned. These individuals have been recognized for their service, with Biden emphasizing their dedication to democracy and the rule of law. The president clarified that the pardons were not acknowledgments of wrongdoing but measures to protect against undue harm and harassment.
