A federal jury in Maryland has convicted a Laurel resident, Thomas Emmanuel Williams, 52, on 12 counts of drug trafficking and firearms offenses after a four-day trial. The charges stem from his illegal sales of firearms, including machine guns and untraceable weapons, as well as large quantities of controlled substances such as oxycodone and fentanyl. This conviction is the result of a coordinated investigation led by federal prosecutors and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Williams conducted the illegal transactions over several weeks in early 2023. He sold firearms, including pistols, rifles, and Glock switches, which are classified as machineguns under federal law, along with ammunition. These weapons were exchanged for cash during meetings in shopping center parking lots in Laurel and Hyattsville, Maryland. Williams also distributed significant quantities of prescription medications and fentanyl, posing a serious threat to public safety.

The investigation showed that Williams orchestrated these sales using FaceTime and phone calls to arrange the transactions. The firearms included a range of high-powered and concealable models, such as AR-style pistols and untraceable “ghost guns.” The combination of weapons and narcotics trafficking underscores the gravity of the charges, which carry a minimum sentence of 30 years in federal prison.
