A 48-year-old Maryland man was sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. The case, heard in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, followed a November 2024 jury conviction of Erbeth Gomez-Delgado on a single count of reentry after deportation. Gomez-Delgado, a previously deported individual and convicted child sexual abuse offender, had returned to the U.S. without authorization.

Court records indicate that Gomez-Delgado was initially apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in July 2016 as he attempted to cross the Rio Grande into Texas. Following his apprehension, he was deported to Guatemala the same day. However, in February 2019, law enforcement discovered that he had returned to the U.S. illegally after being arrested in Prince George’s County on charges of sexually abusing a minor.
During the trial, prosecutors demonstrated that Gomez-Delgado unlawfully reentered the country without seeking or receiving authorization from the Attorney General or the Department of Homeland Security. The reentry occurred prior to his February 2019 arrest, violating federal law.
