HAGERSTOWN, MD News (3/2/2024) – Children in Need, Inc. has been honored as the 2024 Nonprofit of the Year by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. The organization has been recognized for its dedication to enhancing the lives of economically disadvantaged children in the area.

Established in 1998, Children In Need has been a crucial support system for thousands of children and families in Washington County. Through its Client Services Program, the organization offers free clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, coats, shoes, and more to families and children in need. Currently, the program serves over 2,291 children, with an additional 1,000+ benefiting from the Extended Services Program, which provides essential items to local schools and other agencies.
Brittany Wedd, the Executive Director of Children In Need, expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, highlighting the dedication of volunteers, staff, board members, and community stakeholders. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring every child has the necessary resources for academic success.
Children In Need focuses on aiding at-risk children, aiming to facilitate their educational readiness and socio-emotional well-being. The organization’s efforts are particularly crucial given the recent 49% increase in client caseloads since January 2023, with the vast majority of clients living at or below the poverty line.
Despite the challenges, Children In Need remains steadfast in its mission to expand its reach and support more children in Washington County. Through collaborative efforts and innovative approaches, the organization aims to create an environment where every child can fulfill their potential.
